Flash fiction is very short, 100 words on the nose, in this case.

Photo Description for my blind and visually impaired readers: The photo shows a roll of toilet paper on a rack, ready to roll.

The Inspiration

Um…based on a person I know. And this has NOTHING to do with the pandemic.

The Story: For the Turd Who Has Everything

“Aw, crap.” I planted my face into my hands.

“What? Did you fail your level?” Cheri asked, looking up from her game.

“Dirk’s birthday is coming.”

“He always buys himself whatever he wants anyway.”

“Yes, but since he’s my mom’s husband, I HAVE to get him something or he’ll feel slighted.”

Cheri rolled her eyes. “That sucks.” She stared off, deep in thought. “Brownies?”

“He claims to be trying to lose weight.”

“Pfff, right. Dinner out?”

“They never go.”

“True.”

“I’ve got it. I can’t actually do it, but …he DESERVES toilet paper, since he’s such a turd.”

“Perfect gift!”

Villain Fodder | Flash Fiction

Hi, and thank you so much for reading! Here’s a story inspired by a photo writing prompt for Friday Fictioneers for 29 January 2021.

The Photo Writing Prompt

Description for my blind and visually impaired readers: There is a water bottle sitting on a rail in the foreground. Several chairs are beyond. A thick book is on one and maybe it’s a notebook on another.

TheInspiration

I’m going catharsis here.

The Story: Villain Fodder

Villain Fodder

I mark all his rotten deeds in a beautiful journal. Fine paper. Leather binding. Hand-stitched. Labeled as story ideas with pages of random observations between the notes about him. IF he ever picks up my book, he’ll never know. He’s too dense to see himself in his deeds delineated on those luscious pages.

He gives me the best villain fodder. He, who seems so jolly and nice to those outside his home, but to his “beloved” wife, he is the bane of her existence. Only ignoring his ranting saves her sanity.

But I see.

I know.

I will never forget.

Appearing on Ozarks Today | Flash Fiction for Friday Fictioneers 22 Jan 2021

I'll PUsh You Steer by Ronda Del Boccio and Bonnie Tesh

Hello and welcome! I hope you enjoy this little slice of life for the Friday Fictioneers blog challenge for 22 january 2021

The Photo Writing Prompt

PHOTO PROMPT © Rochelle Wisoff-Fields

Description for my blind and visually impaired readers: This is a sidelines shot of a news team in front of the cameras.

The Inspiration.

My first thought was of being on TV with my co-author Bonnie Tesh to promote our book I’ll Push You Steer: The Definitive Guide to Stumbling through Life with Blinders on, currently available only on Kindle.

The Story: Appearing on Ozarks Today

I had to get up before God rolled over in bed, but the coming day was worth the early rise. Since neither of us co-authors nor my guide dog Molly could drive, my mom played chauffer on a frigid winter day.

While waiting our turn to appear on Ozarks Today, we observed the well-oiled machine of a news broadcast.

You might think that being on TV sharing our book represented the highlight of the day, but for me, it came in a close second.

Bonnie teased me for months about my squee at seeing our book front-facing on the shelf.

The Photo Writing Prompt

Photo description for my blind and visually impaired readers: This is a stage, dimly lit, with sound equipment on it.

The Inspiration

This story is based on the September, 2008 Chicago Senior Idol competition, which my amazing dad won in the vocal category

The Story: Chicago’s Senior Idol Winner, 2008

Ron strode onto the stage to take his position at the microphone in the Chicago Senior Idol competition. Several hundred audience members, including his competition and judges, applauded.

Decades ago, he emceed at Mangum Chateau seven nights a week. His daughter grew up backstage and inherited his gift of improvisational humor. Now, he imagined her amongst the crowd, sending him love, wishing for him to win.

While singing “Unchained Melody,” he sent happiness and good will to everyone. He threw himself into his performance, adding expansive gestures and well-honed showmanship to his performance.

He became that year’s Chicago Senior Idol.

The Blue Between the Clouds | Friday Fictioneers Paranormal Poetry 1 Jan 2021

Covers of They All Died Smiling in ebook, print, and audiobook formats, available at Amazon or your favorite fine retailer

Happy 2021! I hope this year treats you well. This time for the Friday Fictioneers blog challenge for 1 January 2021, I decided to try writing a poem in 100 words. Not as easy as it might seem to some, finding a good cadence and rhythm while telling a story in poetic form in exactly 100 words.

Flash Fiction

I love a challenge! So here we go…

The Photo Writing Prompt

PHOTO PROMPT © Na’ama Yehuda

Description for my blind and visually impaired readers: This is a photo of a sky full of cumulus clouds. Something’s in the lower right corner, but Im not sure what. Might be a truck shown from behind, or maybe a building.

The Inspiration

This story actually happened to me. Have I mentioned I have a tendency to stamp out evil entities on the side??? It was a flight to Dallas on my way elsewhere.

Genre: Paranormal Poetry

Word Count: 100

The Story: The Blue between the Clouds

I fly within the blue between the clouds,

Above, a puffed array of cumulus,

Like mounds of whipped cream on Grandma’s pie.

Below, a heaving, undulating mat:

Torrential rage, flashy punctuation,

And twisting winds cause chaos below.

Demonic interference joins the mix.

Playing soccer with nimbi entertains them,

Not me, the passengers, or those below.

They revel in calamity and fear.

Regular winds and lightning won’t suffice.

They mega-boom thunder’s wrath for fun,

and spark brilliant flashes with evil.

Oblivious, they play while I raise power.

I bring their game to a screaming halt

Sending them away in tiny pieces.

The Face Grabber | Friday Fictioneers Flash Fiction

Flash Fiction

Hello and welcome to another story snack! This is for Friday Fictioneers for 20 November 2020. A macabre tale this week, and honestly, something that happened to me. I’ve met one of these and sent it packing in the end.

The Photo Writing Prompt

PHOTO PROMPT © Sarah Potter

Description for my blind/visually impaired readers: It’s a black and white of some sort of blooming plant in shadows.

The Inspiration

I met one of these last night. Still rattled today.

The Story: The Face Graber

Genre: Paranormal, Memoir

Word count: 100

Ah, a new place to colonize, unaware of my kind!

While you slumber, I await the perfect moment.

While you are busy dreaming, I plot.

When your spirit slips out for its journey, I pounce on your face.

My poison-tipped claws prick your face and neck, flooding you with paralyzing neurotoxins.

Then I prepare to eat your essence, so easy to slip free when you cannot move. Unable to move, you succumb.

But no, though my toxin immobilizes you, you resist. You wrestle, writhe, and scream. Your spirit roots in your body. Struggling to take back control, you turn me away.

Tyrone, the High School Theater Ghost

Flash Fiction

Thanks for stopping by! It belatedly occurred to me that I wrote a ghost story during Halloween week. Honestly, the picture brought me there. I’ll explain how in a moment. This story is for the Friday Fictioneers Blog Challenge that Rochelle Wisoff-Fields hosts each week. You’re most welcome and encouraged to come play along.

Flash Fiction

The Photo

Description for my blind/visually impaired friends. This is a black-and-white picture showing some lockers in the background, a couple of which are open. There are feet and backpacks.

The Inspiration

Here’s how my mind went from the image to the story. Stories only need be inspired by the picture. They do not need to describe it. I thought of an episode of Paranormal, Caught on Camera about a cantankerous ghost that haunts a British school. Then I thought of my high school days.

The Story: Tyrone, the High School Theater Ghost

“Ronda, did you know about the ghost?” Jenny preened in the mirror.

Kara nodded. “Tyrone.”

“We haven’t met.”

“They say he came in with some Nazi uniforms they rented for The Sound of Music.”

She’s female and afraid I’ll move her on.

I went down the back stairs for some air. The streetlights went out. Hearing screams from the greenroom, I rushed back.

Girls flailed and around like idiots.

“Tyrone shut off the lights. I swear, no one was near the switch,” Jenny burbled.

“There’s a power outage,” I informed them.

All craziness stopped.

“Oh,” said ten girls in unison.

Reading Birds image

The Rest of the Story:

Did that really happen? Yes. I did meet the ghost. She was a tall fashion plate of a woman.

High Bed | Weekend Writing Prompt: Vault in 63 Words

Flash Fiction

A word prompt to get your creativity flowing this weekend.  How you use the prompt is up to you.  Write a piece of flash fiction, a poem, a chapter for your novel…anything you like.  Or take the challenge below – there are no prizes – it’s not a competition but rather a fun writing exercise.  If you want to share what you come up with, please leave a link to it in Sammi’s Comment Section.

High Bed

I rolled my suitcase into my dorm room at Leader Dogs for the Blind. After a twelve-hour travel day, I so wanted a nap, yet excitement made me giddy. The bed came up to my waist.

I asked the Resident Assistant, “May I borrow a pole vault?”

“Excuse me?”

“I need to vault into that bed.”

Breakfast at Shirley’s with Mom | Flash Fiction

Flash Fiction

Thanks for stopping by! I hope your week has been better than mine. Been a rough week here. There’s some problem with the water pipes, and we’ve been mostly without water all week, save for brief bursts to fill jugs, flush toilets, and shower every couple days. No fun. During a pandemic. Makes it challenging trying to keep sanitary.

Every time I turn around, I’m finding out about someone else I know coming down with Covid, and usually along with their whole family this week. It’s getting more and more scary out there. And a good friend had a massive heart attack.

So, how wonderful to enjoy a lovely breakfast out with Mom while she’s still here for us to enjoy each other.

Flash Fiction

This is a flash fiction story in 100 exactly 100 words for Friday Fictioneers 23 October 2020.

The Photo Writing Prompt

Description for my blind and visually impaired friends: It’s a diner. The photo shows part of a glass of water and a rack of sugar and other necessities on a checkered tablecloth. There’s a window with a view of a rainy day.

The Inspiration

I don’t get out much, but yesterday, Mom and I went to do our shopping and go to our favorite diner for breakfast.

The Story: Breakfast at Shirley’s with Mom

“I know you were happy to have access to indoor plumbing.”

Yes, can’t wait until the water is fixed.”

“But what took you so long?”

“When washing my hands, I noticed their sink was clogged, so I dug and pulled out God only knows what.”

“Ick.”

“Then I had to start the paper towel roll. The first sheet wouldn’t come off. I had to shred it. Looks like Twitch used it as a toy.”

The owner came by to say hi and ask about the food.

“Perfect pancake. Exceptional potatoes. Gorgeous, sunny day. Great to have breakfast with Mom.“

Description for my blind/visually impaired readers: This photo shows pontoon boats and a dock on a beautiful, sunny day.

The Inspiration

I borrowed Kassidy from my paranormal novel They All Died Smiling, because I can! You get to meet her and Randy, her husband who died in military service, when they were still kids. The book is availalbe everywhere and on Audible.

The Story: Fishing and First Love

Hands in pockets, studying his shoelaces, Randy sidled up to me.

“What? Do I have barbecue sauce on my chin or something?”

“Um…no.”

Smiling up at him, I patted the bench beside me, split my cookie in two, and gave him half.

“You fish?”

“’Course.”

“We just got a pontoon boat. Dad said I could ask you along.”

“Saturday?”

He nodded.

“Maybe.”

He frowned.

I grinned. “Just ’cause I work the bakery ‘til noon.”

Randy let out a whoosh of air. Had he held his breath?

“Your boss told me.”

Small towns.

“We’ll pull up to the dock for you.”
