The Photo Prompt
PHOTO PROMPT © CEAyr
For my blind and visually impaired readers, I’ll describe what I see in this photo. It’s an underexposed photo of a festival with tents to the right and a raised stage to the left. There’s something that I have no idea what is sticking up, resembling a super-long surfboard on its end. It seems to have letters on it, but I can’t make sense of them. There might be an instrument case leaning against the platform thing, though it could be something else. And there are people all around with a couple on the platform. The sky is partly cloudy.
The Inspiration
I used to go to the Highland Games in Estes Park, Colorado when I lived in the area. My friends and I rented a cabin and dressed in our SCA garb. Most of us competed in the folk music competition.
The Story: Singing in Manx at the Highland Games
Genre: Memoir
Word count: 100
Dressed in sixteenth-century garb befitting the Highland Games, I told my guide dog, “Thunder, find the mic.” Tail wagging, she led me to it and lay down.
“Does anybody here besides Cait from Iona speak Manx?” I asked.
Lots of chuckles, no’s, and a couple yesses.
“Well then, I should tell you that I learnt from a Manx cat, so if I mispronounce a word or sing with a feline accent, please blame my tutor, Onyx.”
“And for the rest of us, this song entreats people to get off the barstool and go home.”
Laughter erupted. I took second place.
Thanks for reading!

It’s all in the presentation, right? Get them laughing, and you’re a long way ahead of other contestants.
