The Inspiration
When I was a kid, maybe 11, I won a prize from the radio. That was back in the “old days” of corded phones.
The Story: Dinner at the Pump Room
“Mom, do you want to go to the Pump Room if I win?”
She made a dismissive gesture. “You won’t win, but I don’t care about going there anyway.”
I’m pretty sure I’m going to win.
“I’ll invite Dad, then.” I turned the radio up for the announcement.
“The winner of dinner for two at the famous Pump Room is…Ronda Del…Box-ee-oh? Botch-ee-oh? From Chicago.”
I squealed and ran to the phone. “Hi, Dad. Guess what?”
“I just heard. You won the dinner.”
“I’m so excited.”
“Me too.”
I reveled in his enthusiasm.
“That means we’re going to the Pump Room!”
Thanks for reading!

How wonderful to win, and how sad that Mama couldn’t join in her enthusiasm. But still, what a fabulous experience 🙂

I learned that Patty is disgusting, but I certainly enjoyed the dinner. It was an experience of a lifetime for sure. I did not grow up going to places that fancy.

It was really fun and I was actually talking about what might I have when I win. I had a feeling I would win that one.
