The Inspiration: My Only Work Keepsake
I’m not one for keeping a lot of mementos around. but I’ve kept one hand-made card since the end of the last millennium, when I was teaching a self-esteem workshop at Metropolitan State University in Denver, Colorado.
Between the first and second class of the 16-hour workshop, I had to put my retired guide dog to sleep Obviously, I didn’t feel like doing anything, but the show must go on. I let them know at the start that I would tell them something only once, then move on and give them my very best possible class.
The Story: In Honor of Molly
“Everyone, I need to tell you something.”
All shuffling stopped as their attention riveted to me.
“This week, I had to put my dog, Molly to sleep.”
After lunch, they handed me a hand-made, signed card. This cherished gift is my only keepsake from any job I’ve ever had.
