Pondering Old Buildings: Flash Fiction

This is for Friday Fictioneers 15 Nov 2019. Huge thanks to Rochelle Wisoff-Fields for running this blog challenge! Writing flash fiction is probably the best thing I have ever done for my writing. It causes me to pack as much power into every word as possible. If you’d like to play, please do!

The Inspiration

I borrowed Kassidy and Robert from They All Died Smiling, my supernatural/ paranormal/ urban fantasy novel They All Died Smiling, available everywhere.

Covers of They All Died Smiling in ebook, print, and audiobook formats, available at Amazon or your favorite fine retailer

Kassidy Spence has a power that has only brought her pain and hardship, but if she doesn’t use it, more innocents will die. Her friend Robert SpiritFire is a Native American potter of great acclaim.

This is a mundane – um…mainstream – story.

Pondering Old Buildings

By Ronda Del Boccio

Word count 100

“The Rookery is the oldest building in Chicago,” the tour guide said. Ancient by USA standards, I compared it wiht the castles of Europe or mosques of Africa.

“I wonder how many pigeons have pooped on it,” Robert whispered.

I tried not to laugh. I really did. But I guess it’s like when something tickles your funny bone in church or any place you’re not supposed to bust a gut. Sometimes, you just can’t help it. My eyes watered. My nose ran, and finally, a burst of laughter barked its way out.

He grinned.

“Some friend you are! I teased.
